Smash Ventures Limited is an operator-led advisory firm. We bring more than 50 years of combined commercial experience across multiple sectors, businesses, and economic cycles. Our team has run trading enterprises that have collectively delivered over £100 million in turnover and sold more than three million products since inception.
We are not a fund, and we are not a generalist consultancy. Our team has built and run businesses at scale, and we partner with founders working through challenges we have faced ourselves.
Two decades in online retail
Of those fifty plus years, twenty have been spent operating in online retail. That is two decades of category building, channel strategy, fulfilment operations, marketplace economics, and the ongoing work of testing, learning, and adjusting.
We have watched the sector evolve from early e-commerce through social commerce, marketplace consolidation, shifting customer acquisition economics, and most recently AI-led discovery. The sector moves quickly, and it does not reward standing still.
The challenges and the opportunities
Online retail is one of the most demanding environments for any founder. Margins are tight, competition is global, and platform shifts can reset unit economics overnight. Customer acquisition costs trend upward almost everywhere, and the operational burden of inventory, fulfilment, and service scales faster than most founders expect.
The opportunities for the right team remain considerable. A category understood deeply, a brand built with discipline, and operations that compound. That combination still creates extraordinary outcomes. We have seen it work and we have seen it fail. The difference is usually in decisions made well before the numbers tell the story.
How we engage
Every founder's situation is different, so every engagement is different. Some businesses bring us in for a defined consulting brief: a strategic question, a fundraise, a market entry. Others want a long-term partner, working with us on an equity basis with incentives fully aligned.
